Regional Epidemiology Outcomes Workshop - Region 8:
The Oklahoma State Epidemiology Profile of Substance Use is a tool for substance abuse prevention planners at the state, county and community level. The primary purpose is to support goals of reducing substance abuse in the state.
- The purpose of the Region 8 Epidemiology Outcomes Workgroup Philosophy is to provide detailed community-wide assessment regarding the consumption patterns and consequences of substance use/abuse, build capacity to address those needs, and plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based programs, policies and practices designed to address the intervening variables related to identify substance-related problems at a regional level so that the communities can focus their prevention efforts.
- The Region 8 Epidemiology Workgroup will cover Cleveland and McClain Counties and provide formal assessment of contextual conditions, needs, resources, readiness, and capacity to identify priority issues in our area and begin the planning process

- Study – refers to measurement of disease frequency, involving quantification of the existence or occurrence of disease.
- Examples: observation, descriptive research, hypothesis generation, analytic research, experimental research, surveillance, screening
- Distribution – frequency of disease by person, place and time
- Determinants – any factor or event that brings about a change in a health condition
- physical, biological, social, cultural and behavioral factors that influence health
SO what is REOW?
- A network of agencies, organizations, and individuals with expertise about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATODs) data and prevention issues.
- Diverse stakeholders in the region.
- Responsible for helping communities and regions collect, analyze, and report on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs consumption and consequences data.
