The National Prevention Network (NPN)
invites you to our 21st Annual Prevention Research Conference, August 24-27, 2008 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The theme for this year’s conference is “Prevention Research: Driving Successful Outcomes.”

We encourage you to make your plans now to attend.  You will gain knowledge from nationally recognized researchers and practitioners who are using research to drive successful outcomes for prevention programming.  You will also have the opportunity to network with leaders from the federal agencies supporting prevention, including SAMHSA/CSAP, ONDCP, NIDA, NIAAA, OJJDP, and USDE as well as prevention professionals from around the country.

In addition to the conference learning opportunities, you will have the opportunity to explore Indianapolis, the nation’s 13th largest city.  Indianapolis is commonly referred to as the Crossroads of America and is easily accessible from a wide variety of locations, with many interstate highways bisecting the city. Not only that, but half the nation's population is within a day's drive, which makes traveling to Indy by car an attractive option for many.  If flying is more your speed, the Indianapolis International Airport offers travel on 11 airlines and nonstop and direct flights to 39 destinations. And it's only a short 15-minute drive to the heart of downtown.

Attractions abound in downtown Indy, a diverse cultural city with an enriching array of arts, attractions, historical sites and special events. Attraction-filled White River State Park, nestled in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, has cultural, educational and recreational activities including the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indiana State Museum which includes Legacy Theatre where you can learn about the African American heritage of Indiana, and an IMAX theatre.

The Circle Centre Shopping Mall is a short walk via a covered skywalk connected to our host hotel, the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. Indy's abundant restaurant selection gives diners a variety of choices, from familiar chain restaurants to exciting and surprising independent, local establishments with many in walking distance of the hotel. Travel around the globe without ever leaving the city with Indy's impressive variety of ethnic eateries, located all across town. The nightlife in Indianapolis is as varied and vibrant as its other offerings.  For more information about Indianapolis, visit http://www.indy.org.

Commonly referred to as the "Racing Capital of the World," Indianapolis hosts the two largest single-day sporting events in the world: the Indianapolis 500 and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.  Visit the Hall of Fame Museum on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Indianapolis is home to the NFL’s Super Bowl XLI Championship Indianapolis Colts.  Indy is also home to the NBA’s Pacers and the WNBA’s Fever, both of whom play at Conseco Fieldhouse, a monument to Indiana’s rich basketball history.

We are excited about this year’s conference.  It has something for everyone.  There are presentations on Underage Drinking, Prescription Drugs, Social Marketing, Public Policy, Frontier/Rural, Cultural/Ethnicity, and Alcohol Industry Advertising.  We hope you will join us.  Registration is anticipated to be as high as 1,000 people, so please register as early as possible.

We are proud of the opportunity our annual conference has provided to prevention professionals throughout the country and encourage you to join us in August!

See you in Indianapolis!
