On-SITE Trainings
Community Mobilization Training (CMT)
Community Mobilization Training is a two day workshop designed to educate attendees regarding the prevention of substance abuse and related problems within their communities. The program follows a series of four main topics:
Objectives for this training include: Strengthen Commitment; Enhance Vision; Use Data; Prioritize Influencing Factors; Develop Action Plans; and Implement Strategies.
Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) Exam Prep Course
Many prevention providers have requested support to help them prepare for taking the IC&RC Prevention Specialist Exam. This class will deal with the domains covered in the exam, resources for study, and test-taking skills. There is no guarantee that you will pass the exam by taking this course if you do not know prevention content.

Exploring Ethics in the Prevention Field 2020
Meets Certification and Re-Certification Requirements for Certified Prevention Specialist
This 6-hour training satisfies the ethics training requirement for the Certified Prevention Specialist. The course is designed for the substance abuse prevention professional. It is intended to improve the understanding of and ability to apply a set of accepted standards/principles, which are expected to guide the behaviors and actions of both individuals and organizations working in the field. Participants will be able to identify standards of conduct for prevention professionals, utilize a method of decision-making for difficult ethical decisions in prevention, and set professional goals with the prevention ethical standards in mind.
This full day workshop provides six hours of continuing education (.6 CEU’s). It covers the prevention specific ethics materials needed for the ICRC prevention exam & meets the ICRC ethics requirements for Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS). This class also meets Texas LCDC requirements for the required ethics course.
Who Should Attend: Prevention professionals who are seeking certification or re-certification, community coalition members or other interested professionals seeking a better understanding of the field of prevention and ethical behavior.
Prevention Across the Lifespan Training
Unlike many public health issues, the prevention of substance use and abuse has been done in silos. This workshop examines the issues related to altering the "silo" approach so that "conception-to-grave” substance abuse prevention can be implemented.

As shown below, these courses are available in 90 minute, 3 hour, and 6 hour formats and involve participants in an interactive learning process designed to build capacity and to enable participants to implement substance abuse prevention across the lifespan.
Course Learning Objectives Include: Understand the need for providing substance abuse prevention across the lifespan and outside of “silos.”; Understand the complex interaction of human growth and development, brain development, effects of drugs on the brain and the body, and critical life transitions.; and Investigate and consider appropriate ways to provide services to "under-served" age populations.
Course is offered with a 90 minute presentation; 3 hours training and a 6 hour workshop.
Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST)
The University of Oklahoma's Southwest Prevention Center brings the fundamentals of substance abuse prevention training to locations nationwide through its Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST). The SAPST teaches a comprehensive, systematic approach that emphasizes the implementation of evidence-based strategies. The training is valuable for school teachers, school counselors, social workers, police officers, state agency employees, faith-based youth workers, community-based youth workers, parents, nurses, and others who work to ensure healthy behaviors and growth for our youth, families and communities. The SAPST materials are useful for studying for the Certified Prevention Specialist exam. The SAPST is comprised of the following modules:

Ethics for the Prevention Professional
This course is designed to acquaint the entry level substance abuse prevention professional with the ethical standards established by the IC&RC Standards. Participants will be provided with the Prevention Code of Ethics and use this code to demonstrate knowledge of the standards in case studies. Participants will become familiar with a decision making model that can be helpful when facing ethical dilemmas. This session provides the required six hours of ethics training for certification or re-certification. Participants will have a week to complete all requirements for this self-paced course. Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) Overview
The Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) is a five-step strategic planning process. The SPF adheres to a public health approach, uses data throughout the process to guide decision making, and emphasizes outcomes-based prevention. This online course offers an overview of the SPF and provides opportunities to interact with other participants and to receive feedback from facilitators. The 5 steps of SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) and the basic steps and components of completing each step will be described. The course requirements include online readings and assignments that will be posted to a discussion board; you will also be asked to comment on a certain number of other participant’s postings. Facilitators will provide feedback on all discussion boards at the end of each unit. The course also contains a participant survey, a pre-test, a post test, and a course evaluation. Prevention and Early Childhood Development
This online course provides a discussion of the important factors to be considered in presenting a prevention program to preschool age children. By the end of this course participants will have: discussed the importance of human development as it relates to early childhood prevention work; reviewed the history of early childhood prevention work and addressed the appropriateness of targeting those of preschool age; examined the childhood risk and protective factors for substance abuse; addressed the need for prevention in early childhood.
