Discounts available for Southwest Region! UPDATE 12/8/09: At this time there is a partial non-resident tuition waiver available for students in the states included in the SWPC regional service area (Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Texas).  Military rates are also available.  Please contact the College of Liberal Studies Graduate Programs for further information.

What are the admission/entrance requirements?
For Regular Admission Status: Applicants admissible to the Graduate College are required to have a 3.00 grade point average on their last 60 hours of undergraduate work. Applicants who have at least 12 hours of graduate work with a 3.0 GPA on those hours are admissible on that basis. (See exceptions at the CLS website).

Does the course work include grant writing or other writing?
Currently there is a plan to include grant writing as an elective course.

Is the degree completely online or will I be required to go somewhere in Oklahoma (or elsewhere)?
The degree will be completely online so there will be no need to travel to the University of Oklahoma or anywhere else.

What kind of financial aid is available?
Financial aid questions should be pursued with the University of Oklahoma’s College of Liberal Studies once the Master’s Degree is being offered. The phone number for the Financial Aid Department at the College of Liberal Studies is 405-325-2929. They will be able to assist you once the degree is in the system. We may also have more information on our website in upcoming months.

What classes do you plan on offering?
Core courses for the degree plan include: Foundations in Prevention Science, Prevention Across the Lifespan, Prevention Strategy Development, Implementation & Evaluation. Planned elective courses include Decision Making, The Ethics of Leadership, Project Management, Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations, Grant Writing, Managing Public Programs, Public Budgeting and Finance, Drug Education, Health Promotion Strategies, and Social Marketing in Health Promotions. The degree will also require a practicum, thesis, or final project.

Who will be teaching classes?
Faculty from the University of Oklahoma in various colleges and departments, including the College of Liberal Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences will be teaching classes for the Prevention Science Master’s Degree.
